Level 38 : Artisan Electrician5Since mac users don't get the pleasure of a working 'open texture pack folder' button, here is how to install texture packs on the Mac.

first off, go to finder, and open it. If you already have a window open for something else, right click and click 'open new window'.
secondly, you need to navigate to library. It has a picture on the folder that looks like a public place such as a bank or whatever.
when you get into that folder, click on the application support folder to see all of its contents.
look for the minecraft folder, and click on it.
in the minecraft folder, there is a texture packs folder called 'texturepacks' where you must put your texture packs. These texture packs must be in a .zip format. If your mac converts all zip files into folders, then you must turn all those files back into a zip file! To do this, highlight all the files in your folder, right click, and click 'compress (#) files'. It will compress these files into a zip file named archive, which you can rename to the name of your texture pack.
Once you have the texture pack in a zip file, then drag that zip file into the texturepack directory in your minecraft folder. Then, you can select the texture pack in game from the title screen by clicking on it.

If you were having texture pack problems on a Mac, then I hope this helped. :) be sure to check out the blog of the person in the additional credit for giving me the idea to make this tutorial for mac users. I do not use a linux, so I am not exactly sure how to install texture packs on that. If you want me to make a tutorial for those of you who use linux, then by all means, ask.
Note that in minecraft 1.3, the 'open texture pack folder' button is (I believe) going to work on Mac. I will rename this blog to 'How to install texture packs on Mac. Putting it into zip helped, but I still am having trouble.
It comes up in my texture pack folder, but It comes up with a grayscale picture, and when I use the texture pack, it doesn't work.

In the event you haven't gotten it yet (sorry for not getting back to you quicker), here are some possible solutions:
1. You do have minecraft installed I'm assuming? If not, just run it once. The folder should be there at that point.
2. The path is finder (the application, not the directory), library, application support, minecraft, texturepacks. Did you manage to find that? You go to finder, look for the library folder, go to the application support folder, and then look for the minecraft folder.
3. Do you have some strange settings on finder? Is your computer shared and set up so that you can't do certain things on it?
4. If any of these don't work, you can always look on youtube for a tutorial.

Just in case someone wants to know how to download a texture pack on a Mac computer, I made this tutorial!
There aren't many steps to it; it's pretty simple, actually. So read on if you want to know how!(All links will be given at the end of tutorial)
Step 1:Finding a texture pack
-------------------------------------------
Search on google or any other searching website you have whatever texture pack you want. Once you find a nice texture pack, just check if it is the same version as your minecraft. If it isn't, it's best you don't download it. and also check the resolution. 16x16 is a good resolution. If your computer is slow or has a lot of lag, do NOT download something over 128x128, it CAN crash or over-lag your computer. after you have checked these requirements, proceed to step 2
Step 2:Downloading

There should be a DOWNLOAD button on the site you are on. if you are on a website like minecraftdl.com, be careful which download button you press; those sites have a lot of advertisements. So after you press download, the download will appear somewhere(I use google chrome and i'm not sure where the download goes on firefox or internet explorer). after it's done loading, click it and proceed to step 3
Step 3:Adding it to Minecraft --------------------------------------
Drag the file onto your desktop from finder. After doing that, open up Minecraft. Login, and press texture packs(If you are on 1.5+, texture packs is in options). Click the button that says 'Open texture packs folder.' It will open a thingamajigy. Copy your texture pack file, and paste it into the thingamajigy. Close the thingamajigy and the texture pack should be right under 'Default.'
Step 4: Activating
------------------------
Click the icon of your new texture pack. Then it should activate. Once you start playing, it should work!
